Influenced by the Chicago folk scene of the 70's, and by friends Steve Goodman, Jim Post, and Bob Gibson, Claudia Schmidt quickly became the city's favorite female folk/pop singer. With a powerful voice that reminds this fan of Maddy Prior and Priscilla Herdman, Ms Schmidt dazzles with multiple instruments and powerful songwriting. In later years her path appeared to follow one paved by Joni Mitchell with jazz becoming part of her palette. But here, with energy, creativity, and smart arrangements her pop-tinged folk-adjacent originals that I adored back in Chicago are center stage. Possessing beautiful recording, engineering, and mastering, this Flying Fish record is one to own.
